From her Friulian town of Udine to her suspicious death in her beloved Mexico, Tina’s extraordinary life spans four continents and the most important social movements of the last century. The play’s scenes arise from iconic photographs of Modotti and Weston that come to life.

Apertura MODOTTI celebrates Tina Modotti, (1896-1942), whose short life provides a brilliant leitmotif of the first half of the 20th century. Most often seen as a student and lover of Edward Weston, she is now acknowledged as a seminal modernist photographer.

Artist. Lover. Revolutionary.

But there were constant tensions in Tina's life: between the creation of art and revolutionary involvement; her sense of self and her lovers; her evolving political beliefs and censorship from the right and the left.

Modotti was a woman of remarkable beauty and commitment to social justice.
