CUBA

My travel companions were both friends and fellow artists: BRAVA board member and noted musician/producer Greg Landau, and fellow teatrista Marie Acoste.  With an official guide from the Cuban government, we traveled the length of the country with a focus on Havana and Santa Clara, meeting small and larger theater companies, music groups, orchestras, choral groups, puppeteers, jazz and performance artists.

In 2002, I was awarded am Irvine Presenters’ Fellowship trip travel to Cuba for ten days to make contacts with theater artists and musicians for collaborations.

Can’t forget the Sunday rumba and a santeria reading.   We spent time with the legendary Juana Baccalo and initiated plans to bring her to SF. Unfortunately, the post 9/11 Bush policy toward Cuba tightened the blockade, ending cultural exchanges. Phenomenal trip.
